April 10, 2012

Dear Season Soccer Club Members,

It is April, practices are well under way, and another Opening Day is only a few days away.  As most of you know, games start Saturday, April 14th, for our InHouse league and our Travel league.  I am excited for the season to start.  As the season begins, I do want to touch upon a few things. First, as you all know, the fields have been closed, and will be until Opening Day (April 14th).  We closed them to ensure that the sod put down would take.  Second, Monday, April 16th is the Soccer Pictures. They will be at the Clubhouse.  Schedules will be out very soon.  Please be at least 10 minutes early to your scheduled time.

The third thing that I want to bring up is our trainers.  We are lucky to have two great Trainers from Challenger.  They are Curtis Gregory and Tom Grevatt. Tom and Curtis started working with our teams last week, and will be with us until June 8th.  They are working with our Travel teams and the U-8 and U-11 teams in InHouse.   Please take advantage of the skills training that they are providing.  It is open to any member of SSC.  On Tuesdays, from 6-7 pm Curtis is providing Ball Handling Training.  On Thursdays, from 5-6 pm, Curtis is training Goalies.  Finally, on Fridays from 5-6 pm, Tom is running training sessions that will vary week to week.  If your child wants to attend, please have them there on time.  This week, week of April 9th, it will be at Jerry Ross. After that, it will be at the fields.  Please have your player bring a ball to all sessions.  If they are going to Goalie Training, have them bring goalie gloves.

One last thing!  I just want to remind everyone that this club is about the kids.  We are a Recreational League.  Please remember that when at the fields on Saturdays, Sundays or any day.  The goal of SSC is to teach the game of soccer, both the rules and the skills, to encourage teamwork and sportsmanship, and to have fun!  Keep all of this in mind, whether you are coaching or spectating.  Please act accordingly.  Treat everyone (players, coaches, other parents and REFS) with respect.  We all make mistakes. If you do have a question or a concern, please find a Field Marshall (Board Members).  We are at all InHouse games.  There will be a Board Member at most, if not all, Travel games. Rather than yelling at the ref for a bad call, let us handle it.  I would like to thank you in advance for this courtesy.

See you at the fields!

SSC Board President

Dear Season Soccer Club Members,

Although it is only early December, preparations for the Spring 2012 season have already started.  First of all, Registration has begun.  On-Line Registration is up and running.  It is set up now through Sunday, January 8th at midnight.  We are again using Blue Sombrero (see Link on this webpage).  We did have a few bugs last season, which we have tried to fix for this season.  If you register your child(ren) on Blue Sombrero, you must pay with a credit card this year, so please have one ready.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me (my contact info is on the Club Info page).  Our In-Person Registration for the Spring season is set for Saturday, January 7th, from 9 am to NOON at the LOFS Clubhouse.  Please make note of this change in venue.  We normally have our Registration at the 19th Hole, but we have moved it!  If your child(ren) are going to play Travel, please bring a wallet size picture.  As mentioned before, Registration ends on Sunday, January 8th at midnight.  Anyone who registers after that will be charged a late fee, and placed on a waiting list.  Please try to register on time, as it allows us to better plan our teams.

Registration starting brings up an issue that we have during every season.  The issue is requests.  Since I have been on this Board, we have had issues with requests being made to be with a certain coach, or to play in a certain division.  I want to state up front that we cannot guarantee that any requests will be granted.  We do have certain guidelines that we must follow when putting teams together.  Often parents make requests, with the belief that it will be followed, and get upset when it is not.  When trying to put over 300 players onto about 30 teams in In-House and Travel, we cannot meet every request.   Our goal is to put the teams together in a way that benefits SSC as a whole, not just selected players or teams.  We understand that there are transportation and other issues that arise for some of you.  Requests will be considered on an individual basis. Please, when making any requests, keep this in mind.  We want every player to have fun and enjoy their time playing for SSC.

As a reminder, please remember to sign up, if you can, to be on our Volunteer List.  I described this in last month’s letter.  You can sign up at In-Person Registration or contact myself or Amanda Rohder (see Club Info page for contact info).

See you at the fields!

November News Letter:

Dear Season Soccer Club Members:

My name is Brent Barton and I am the new President of Seasons Soccer Club. I am excited about this new opportunity to help our club grow. I have been a part of SSC for a very long time (since my 9th Grade daughter started Kindergarten). I have seen this club go through its ups and downs over those ten years, as a parent, coach and board member. I have many ideas to help SSC grow into what it is meant to be; a soccer club that promotes and teaches the game of soccer, and instills teamwork and sportsmanship into our players.

I do want to congratulate our new Seasons Soccer Club Board Members for the 2011-2012 soccer year on their election to the board. There are many returning members, but also some new faces.

They are:

President—Brent Barton

 Vice President—Todd Soffa

Secretary—Melinda Pfeifer

Treasurer—Matt Cornett

NW Representative—Ryan Satka

Registrar—Chris Price

Coaches’ Coordinator—Ron Kranz

Referee Representative—Lori Ritter

Equipment—Steve Tatalovich

Promotions—Steve Kelley

At-Large (Fields)—Mike Kitchen

At-Large (Volunteer Coordinator)—Amanda Rhoder

At-Large—Jeff Ritter

At-Large—Scott Neis

If you see any of these Board Members at the fields, please congratulate and thank them for all of the hard work they are going to be doing this year.

I would like to mention a few of my plans for the next year. The first thing I want to do is form a Volunteer List. This is going to be a list of parents who are willing to step up and help with things that need to be done throughout the season and off-season. Many of these things are jobs that the Board usually performs, outside of their regular responsibilities. Over the years, I have had many parents ask what they can do to help. These parents might be unable to coach, but want to help out in some way. These are the people we are looking for on the Volunteer List. Our Volunteer Coordinator is going to work on this list. We will have sign-ups at our in person registration. If you are interested, but cannot make the in person sign-ups, please contact myself, or Amanda Rhoder. Our contact information is under the Club Info tab of this website.

Some of the other plans that I want to accomplish are forming a Standards’ Committee, developing Age-group Curriculums and holding Coaches’ Clinics to support coaches, update this website and increase the communication with the club members. These are all things that I feel will help our club grow and get more people involved within the club.

I plan on posting a letter on a monthly basis, to help keep communication open between the Board and SSC members. I am looking forward to a great, but busy, year!!

See you at the fields!
